NPHY offers a variety of volunteer opportunities for both individuals and groups to make a positive impact in the lives of homeless youth.

If you are interested in volunteering with NPHY as an individual, you must attend a mandatory orientation session. NPHY's volunteer orientations are offered the 1st and 3rd Wednesday of every month from 5pm – 6pm at our Drop-In Center (4981 Shirley Street, Las Vegas, NV 89119). To RSVP for an upcoming orientation, or for more information, please email volunteer@nphy.org or call 702-383-1332.

If you'd like to get a group together to do a volunteer project for NPHY, please email volunteer@nphy.org or call 702-383-1332. NPHY welcomes corporate, civic, church, and other groups for all kinds of special volunteer projects, at your location or ours.

Please find our standard volunteer opportunities below. We are also happy to custom-tailor an opportunity that fits your needs, interests, group size, and schedule.

NPHY Volunteer Adventures include:

  • The Team Tour of the NPHY’s Drop-in Center is an activity good for individuals to teams! Available Monday through Friday 9am to 6pm. Tours last about 30 to 45 minutes. Learn about NPHY, homeless youth, and our programs firsthand to help us spread the word! By taking a tour, you will become familiar with the services we offer to homeless youth as well as youth in crisis through Safe Place. We would love to extend a full tour, ending with Q&A about NPHY, to individuals or even whole teams.

  • Feel Good Friday is an activity for groups of 12-15 volunteers. Feel Good Friday is hosted every Friday from 3:30pm-4:30pm. The goal of Feel Good Friday is to establish a trusting relationship between NPHY and youth who are at-risk of homelessness by providing resources to such youth. Outreach volunteers and staff will provide food, clothing, hygiene items, school supplies, information about available services, and other needed items in targeted at-risk neighborhoods throughout Las Vegas.

  • Sacked Lunch Super Heroes is a volunteer activity appropriate for 4-5 volunteers. Sacked Lunch Super Heroes is hosted every Thursday from 4:00pm-5:30pm (negotiable). Volunteers are asked to assemble sacked lunches that will be distributed during NPHY’s weekly outreach activities. We ask that volunteers bring the needed supplies to put together at least 120 sack lunches – a supply list will be provided.

  • Cookin´ for a Cause is an opportunity appropriate for 6 volunteers. Volunteers host a BBQ for homeless youth at our Drop-In Center. Contact NPHY for a date and time, should last 1.5-2 hours. NPHY’s Drop-In Center is lucky to have a gas grill and beautiful patio area that is perfect for a BBQ! Volunteer groups will be asked to supply the food and menu of your choosing (ex: burgers, hot dogs, side dishes) and a grill master to prepare hot meals for NPHY’s clients. This activity is typically hosted on Wednesdays in the afternoon. The number of approximated youth attending will be provided once a date/time is selected, but may range from 6 to 20. Any leftover food will be distributed to our clients at our Drop-In Center and/or our Emergency Shelter.

  • Drop-In Center Do-Gooder volunteers will be asked to help around at the NPHY Drop-In Center. This activity is great for someone looking for service hours or professional experience. Below are a few of the ways in which a Drop-in Center Do-Gooder can help out:

    • Assist in answering phone calls at the reception desk
    • Check the dates on food pantry items, replace as needed
    • Assist in re-stocking the clothing closet
    • Assist with other clerical tasks at the center

This activity is perfect for an individual who is interested in giving back. Drop-In Center Do-Gooder’s can sign up for 2 hour intervals.

  • Once a month NPHY hosts a baking contest. Volunteers will prepare snacks such as cookies, cupcakes, and other confections at the Drop-In Center. Volunteers will not only prepare the snacks, they will also decorate them. Once all baked goods are prepared, NPHY’s homeless clients will decide the contest winner, and shortly thereafter feast on the yummy baked goods prepared by the volunteers. The purpose of this activity is to provide volunteers with an opportunity to interact with our homeless clients in a fun and non-intimidating way. This activity is great for groups of 5-7 people. NPHY will provide the needed items for this activity.

  • Residential Expansion/ Improvement Projects are great for 12-15 volunteers. Contact NPHY for an available date, the activity should last 3-4 hours. Volunteers will assist with service projects that focus on improving NPHY’s housing facilities. Projects available may vary, but can include assisting us with assembling bunk beds and rearranging the client’s Independent Living and Emergency Shelter condos, painting projects, property maintenance/organization projects, beautification/restoration projects, and more.

  • The “Everything” Project is suitable for groups of 12-15 volunteers. Please contact us for an available Friday, should last 3-4 hours. In this project, we will combine elements of Feel Good Friday, Sacked Lunch Super Heroes, and Cookin’ for a Cause to create the ultimate NPHY volunteer experience. Volunteers will be put into 3 small groups, where they will make sacked lunches, create hygiene kits, prepare a BBQ lunch for the clients at the Drop-In Center, and prepare for Feel Good Friday. The day will culminate with volunteers passing out items at Feel Good Friday.
