Street Outreach allows Nevada Partnership for Homeless Youth employees and
volunteers to interact with the homeless youth population and provide them
with basic needs items necessary for survival. These items include
toiletries, backpacks, blankets, weather appropriate clothing, food vouchers
and snacks, water, calling cards, and information and referral cards.
The
overall objective of the Street Outreach program is to provide education,
prevention services, and supplies to runaway, homeless, throwaway, and
street youth who have been subjected to, or are at risk of, sexual
exploitation or abuse.
The goal of the program is to establish and build
trusting relationships between street youth and the Nevada Partnership for
Homeless Youth Street Outreach Team through consistent contact over a two-
to three-month period. Once this has occurred, youth are more open to
accessing our drop-in center and speaking with Case Managers about
longer-term services, such as education and employment assistance as well as
transitional housing services.
The scope of the Street Outreach program is
to provide supportive services and supplies that will assist homeless youth
in moving and adjusting to a safe and appropriate alternative living
arrangement. Last year our Street Outreach workers provided information
and/or basic needs items to 2,382 youth on the streets of Southern Nevada.
Please see the Volunteer Opportunities tab for current street outreach
events.
